Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM) is seeking a Speechwriter to join his communications team in DC. Primary duties will include drafting and revising speeches, including floor speeches, talking points, op eds, committee statements, video scripts, and eblasts, as well as conducting historical and policy research to support high-quality and original speechwriting. The Speechwriter will also assist in the drafting and editing of other written communications materials as needed. The Speechwriter will be a part of the communications team for both the personal office and the Minority on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, report to the Communications Director, and must be able to work closely across multiple teams to deliver a final product. The ideal candidate will be a hard worker who is detail-oriented and self-starting, with excellent time management skills and the ability to translate complicated policy into compelling stories that resonate with New Mexicans. Ties to New Mexico and/or fluency in Spanish are a significant plus. Please note that this is not an entry-level position. Prior experience with speechwriting and Hill or campaign experience strongly preferred. This position is required to work in the office.
