The American Diabetes Association (ADA) seeks an individual for the position of Senior Director of Policy in our Advocacy group. This position is responsible for researching and making recommendations on policy areas of concern to the American Diabetes Association. The position will also make recommendations for execution of legislative and regulatory strategies in alignment with ADA goals. Reporting to the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, this position will require a high-level of collaboration with internal and external partners and audiences. Candidates for this position must have experience in relevant policy areas and be able to work independently, managing multiple priority projects.


Responsibilities


Key functions of the position include:


  • Working collaboratively with other ADA staff and partner organizations in the development of long-term policy priorities and strategy to further the mission of the American Diabetes Association
  • Providing recommendations on policies as necessary and development of ADA draft annual policy agenda
  • Maintaining a strong working knowledge of policies impacting people with diabetes at the state, federal, and regulatory levels
  • Providing reliable analysis and strategic guidance on developments related to the ADA’s policy priorities and other timely issues
  • Developing and disseminating policy analysis and collaborating on materials for the state government affairs team
  • Conducting research as necessary, reviewing and evaluating legislation, determining the benefits and drawbacks of existing policy, and serving as project manager for policy research projects
  • Initiating, planning, and executing events in support of policy priorities
  • Responding to policy-related inquiries from the state and federal affairs teams
  • Participating and engaging in coalition activities as it relates to the policy priorities of the ADA
  • Collaborating with the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs to oversee and manage the policy work of the ADA
  • Working with grassroots to update information on policy priorities on the website and in communications with advocates
  • Working collaboratively with the ADA government affairs teams to implement policy priorities and strategy

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree required (Masters or other advanced degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in public policy arena with emphasis on policy development (either with non-profit, state or federal legislative office or regulatory agency).
  • A genuine dedication and personal commitment to preventing and curing diabetes and improving the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
  • Strong writing and research skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively multitask, make informed decisions, use independent judgment, establish priorities and provide clarity to senior leaders.
  • Frequent travel is required.
  • Remote working environment.
