Communications Director

DESCRIPTION:

Joe Morelle for Congress, a second-term incumbent Democrat in NY-25, seeks a full-time Communications Director for the 2022 cycle. The Communications Director will be responsible for the development and implementation of a multi-channel communications plan, including driving earned media coverage, rapid response, and serving as a spokesperson for the campaign.

SALARY: $6,000-$7,000 (monthly)

START DATE: Immediately

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive multi-channel communications plan.
• Manages media relations and develops contacts with media members, influencers, and community leaders.
• Serves as a spokesperson for the campaign with local and national media.
• Writes and oversees the writing of media releases, statements/quotes, speeches, opinion pieces, talking points, newsletters, and other related materials.
• Oversees the campaign’s digital and social media presence and assists with the creation of digital, video, and audio content.
• Works in partnership with the Campaign Manager, staff, consultants, and vendors.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Competitive applicants will have 2-3 years of communications and campaign experience.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects independently.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight turnaround times and deadlines.
• Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others.
• Demonstrated proficiency with social media platforms and digital marketing tools.
• Strong writing and editing skills.
• Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to remain flexible and willing to work long hours, nights, and weekends as necessary.
• Applicants should have a car and be willing to relocate.
