Starbucks - Public Relations and Communications
Schedule
: Full-time
manager, Retail Communications
Partner Communications | Public Affairs
From the beginning, human connection has been core to Starbucks’ purpose. We set out to be a different kind of company, creating a culture of warmth and belonging and deep care for our partners (employees), customers and neighborhoods all over the world. We are known for developing extraordinary leaders who share this passion and are guided by their service to others.
As a manager with a focus on Retail Communications, you will be responsible for driving and delivering internal communication strategies, initiatives and campaigns that connect every store partner to their Starbucks Experience. You will also be responsible for messaging and publishing store facing communications that clearly describe context and actions partners need to take to be successful in their roles. You will manage channel and content strategy plans for retail facing internal announcements, programs and issues – like company updates, messages from senior leaders, operational or policy changes and new investments in the partner experience. You get to do this working closely with highly cross functional teams and senior leaders across the company and especially our operations, partner resources (HR), external and digital communications, enterprise communications, events, and legal teams.
Most importantly, we are eager to find a partner who will embrace the opportunity to help elevate retail partner voices (baristas, shift supervisors, shift managers and store managers) and play a key role in partner engagement, advocacy and culture through listening, transparency, empathy and action.
What you’ll do:
- Manage our day-to-day retail communications plans – this includes identifying the needs and key messages with your cross functional team, defining thoughtful strategies to deliver those messages and partnering with stakeholders to bring timely deliverables to life across partner communication channels. You’ll align on plans and know when and how to bring your leaders along, and ensure seamless execution.
- Support with planned and unplanned store communications as well as issues management. This includes helping quickly triage, develop messaging, outlining clear actions and instructions for store partners, publishing, and monitoring partner feedback.
- Serve as a content strategist. Our store partners live busy lives, and we’re looking for someone who understands store operations and the daily partner experience, can work fast, and develop short, engaging content and communications that works for our channels.
- Drive the kind of storytelling that deepens trust. Storytelling runs in our DNA and you must have a passion for developing compelling stories that reach our Gen Z retail partners.
- Use partner sentiment, insights and data to inform your plans and ensure continuous improvement.
- Work in a non-hierarchical manner to build relationships with peers, ask questions, bring forward well-informed ideas, and learn from your team. You’ll leverage a foundation of strong relationship you build to help move work froward.
- Serve on our on-call rotation for select weekends or weeks to help write and publish emergency communications, working with team members across U.S. time zones
What you’ll need:
- Ability to decode “corporate speak” and write brief, clear and persuasive communications that engage partners and reduces errors and confusion.
- A deep curiosity and passion for store operations and the partner experience. The ideal candidate understands the right voice and tone necessary for our store manager, shift supervisor and barista audiences and has a demonstrated understanding of Starbucks and its retail business.
- Desire to learn from your success, failures and from the experience of others.
- Natural disposition to work with urgency and limited guidance from your supervisor.
- Comfortable working with a hybrid team.
How you work:
- Collaboratively and cross-functionally. You’re known for your ability to influence without authority.
- Efficiently. You often manage multiple projects while maintaining superior attention to detail.
- Confidently and proactively. You can quickly adapt to changing priorities. You effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, work independently and maintain confidentiality.
- You write concisely, and quickly – this is key.
- Inclusively and with humility. You encourage diversity of thought and gather feedback judiciously, and you know when to adjust your approach and when to follow your initial vision. You bring others along and over-communicate so your leaders and teams can support you.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of communications, operations or change management experience preferred, ideally in a fast-paced communications, campaign, or retail setting.
- Minimum 2 years serving in a decision-making or audience subject matter expert role on cross-functional teams and projects.
- Strong writing, presentation, verbal communication and collaboration skills.
