Job Title: TPS Legal Clerk
Classification & FLSA Status: Full time | Temporary (4-8-month) (15-20)
Pay Range: $20 - $22 hourly, depending on experience.

Reports to: Supervising Attorney/OLAP Accredited Representative and Managing Attorney
Location: CARECEN’s Los Angeles office; In-Person
Job Summary: CARECEN seeks to hire 15-20 temporary TPS Legal Clerks to assist with TPS re-registration applications from approximately July 2023 to February 2024. Temporary position from four to eight (4-8) months. TPS Legal Clerks will work under the direct supervision of attorneys and DOJ accredited representatives in CARECEN’s Los Angeles office. TPS Legal Clerks will be responsible for assisting attorneys and DOJ Accredited Representatives in preparing TPS re-registration and related applications..
This is a full-time position with benefits.
Duties:
- ·Assist attorneys and DOJ accredited representatives in completing applications for TPS re-registration, related applications, and preparing supporting documentation.
- Provide reception services as needed.
- Perform general clerical duties for the legal department on an as needed basis.
- Logging and filing immigration notices.
- Answer phone calls and provide case updates to clients with pending cases.
- Translate documents from Spanish to English as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by Managing and Supervising Attorney/OLAP.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.
Skills:
- Attention to detail, strong organizational skills and effective time management skills required.
- Flexibility/adaptability and the ability to work productively in a periodically stressful environment required; ability to receive and process large numbers of clients preferred.
- Knowledge of history of Central American immigrant community, preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish languages, required.
- Basic Windows-based computer skills in word processing and immigration forms software strongly preferred.
- Ability to provide services using diplomacy and tact while being sensitive to clients’ background and history required.
- Completion of some undergraduate coursework highly desirable or equivalent work experience and education strongly preferred.
- Commitment to the mission and goals of CARECEN.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position operates in a professional office environment. The position requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. This is an in-person position based out of CARECEN’s Los Angeles office.
Work Schedule
Office hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday. The work schedule for this full-time, temporary position with a 35-hour workweek totaling 7-hour workdays. The position is for a 4-8-month period.
Travel Requirement
The position is temporary, full-time in-person and requires going into the CARECEN Los Angeles Office. Occasional travel may be required to CARECEN’s Van Nuys and San Bernardino offices. Mileage reimbursement is available.
