We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Health Equity Program Manager (Action and Organizing) on our Center for Health Equity team. As a Health Equity Program Manager (Action and Organizing) you will be responsible for managing activities to drive and support the AMA in visualizing, normalizing, organizing and operationalizing health and racial equity throughout the organization. The Program Manager will work closely with colleagues in the Center and HR to oversee, facilitate, and monitor progress on several equity action teams across the AMA and within business units. This role will also consult with Business Units, in partnership with HR, on how to embed equity within their business unit.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Development and Management
- Manage oversight, coordination and strategic alignment of multiple equity workgroups, business unit action teams (18-20 teams); the Center’s equity action team; and others as they arise
- Monitor workgroup benchmarks and progress on equity action planning and implementation
- Collaborate with the Center and HR, provide capacity building support to equity action teams in creation, monitoring and implementation of action plans to embed equity within the AMA
- Develop and follow a defined process for project execution which includes, development of project charters, assembling of project teams, task coordination, and issue management. Deliver project tasks on time, with high quality and ensure that deliverables/milestones are met. Identify barriers to a project’s execution and potential solutions; coordinate activities with other teams internal and external collaborators, as applicable and adhere to the budget.
- Manage external consultants and vendors providing health and racial equity consultation to AMA staff, including recurring check-in’s with vendors, monitoring contract deliverables and approving invoices, evaluation of vendor workshops and vendor performance
Consultation and Coaching
- Provide consultation and coaching on health and racial equity to AMA business units on a variety of topics as they arise in business units.
- Provide subject matter expertise to complement AMA staff learning in content areas such as: disability justice, racial equity, LGBTQ+ equity, and health equity Provide subject matter expertise to complement AMA staff learning in topic areas such as: institutional and structural racism, implicit bias
Program Evaluation
- In partnership with the Center’s evaluation team and HR, manage all program evaluation components of AMA equity action and organizing, including evaluation and monitoring of key benchmarks and overall progress of AMA on culture change as it pertains to embedding equity throughout business processes, policies, work environment, and external facing products/programs
- Oversee evaluation of coaching and consultation provided to AMA business units, including pre/post consultation evaluation surveys, short term and long-term evaluation, and progress of business units over time
Manage Relationships
- Identify internal collaborators and foster opportunities to collaborate in health and racial equity action and organizing across the AMA
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with external organizations and key collaborators and/or relevant stakeholders. Define the project responsibilities, project activities and deliverables for collaborative work with external entities, as appropriate.
May include other responsibilities as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred, preferably in public health, healthcare management, public policy, social work, related fields or equivalent, applicable work experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
- Professional experience engaging with disability communities, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and/or intersections of these identities required
- Expertise in health and racial equity, trauma-informed approaches, institutional systems change, coaching, consulting, and/or facilitation required
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in project planning and project management preferred.Demonstrated experience with operational planning, budget planning, implementation and evaluation of multiple, complex projects including, convening project teams, organizing multi-faceted project plans, managing towards established timelines and project deliverables.
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from different disciplines and backgrounds, contributing as a team member; self-motivated and a strong individual contributor
- Strong writing skills required, especially in the ability to conceptualize issues, synthesize a response and write/develop reports
- Strong presentation and public speak skills required, including experience presenting and facilitating in a large group setting
- Some travel may be required
