Job Description
SUMMARY: Legislative Assistants work in the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action and provide a variety of support services to lobbyists and management. The primary responsibility of this position is to assist the Managing Director and State Directors (lobbyists) in their duties, which includes a mix of research, communication, and administrative tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES
� Report directly to the Managing Director and work with a team of State Directors.
� Track legislation that affects NRA membership.
� Compile voting records of state level legislators in assigned region.
� Attend hearings, meetings, and events on behalf of the Association.
� Conduct legislative and policy research.
� Produce error-free communications and official correspondence.
� Provide detailed reports on state level elections and races, including candidate tracking.
� Complete a variety of administrative tasks assigned by the Managing Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
� Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
� Minimum of two-years of responsible work experience in related field.
� Working knowledge of the legislative process and political campaigns.
� Excellent writing ability. MUST PROVIDE WRITING SAMPLES with Resume and Cover Letter.
� Comprehensive knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
� Legislative Assistants are viewed as lobbyists-in-training. The NRA-ILA is specifically recruiting career minded candidates that demonstrate the requisite skills, desire, and work ethic to become State Directors (lobbyists).
� Legislative Assistants are REQUIRED to work some evenings and weekends, especially during active legislative sessions and campaign cycles.
� Some travel is required.
� Salary commensurate with experience.
