Job Description
Sick Cells is hiring an Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement Manager to join its team. Sick Cells is a nonprofit advocacy organization working to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease (SCD) through community engagement, policy action, education, and systems change.
The Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement will lead community engagement efforts related to Medicaid and payer engagement. This role will oversee the development, coordination, and dissemination of insights from Medicaid consumer panels, decision-making boards, and public meetings. This position reports to the Senior Director of Policy and Government Affairs.
This is a full-time, hybrid position, with two days per week spent in the Washington, D.C. office. Occasional travel, weekend, and evening work will be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including state Medicaid agencies, healthcare providers, community organizations, and payers.
- Strengthen collaboration between Medicaid programs and payers to improve access to innovative SCD therapies.
- Represent Sick Cells at consumer facing meetings, including Prescription Drug Affordability Boards.
- Recruit, train, and coordinate patient ambassadors for DURB Board testimony.
- Manage and maintain the national 50-State Medicaid Legislative & Policy Landscape, including DURB calendars, decisions, and SCD therapeutic reviews.
- Develop high-quality briefing materials, talking points, and state-specific policy summaries
- Support Congressional briefings and prepare ambassadors for participation.
- Assist in planning and executing policy events and advocacy initiatives.
- Assist with federal policy priorities as needed.
- Maintain internal tracking systems, dashboards, and reporting tools to support strategic decision-making.
- Produce briefing materials, talking points, and state-specific summaries.
- Create educational materials and resources for diverse audiences.
- Draft content, including blogs, presentations, white papers, newsletters, and social media.
- Coordinate with external contractors to ensure accurate and up-to-date Medicaid coverage intelligence, and
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience or familiarity with patient advocacy and state healthcare policy.
- Understanding of Medicaid, prior authorization, and DUR processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience writing across formats, including reports, presentations, and plain-language summaries.
Benefits
This is a full-time, direct-hire position. The salary for this position is commensurate with experience, ranging from $65,000 to $70,000. The benefits package includes health, vision, and dental insurance, 403b 1% match, professional development, and generous paid leave.
