We’re seeking an Associate, Foundation and Institutional Relations to support our institutional fundraising efforts by identifying funding opportunities, developing compelling grant proposals, and stewarding foundation and corporate partners. This role helps advance UWNYC’s work in health, education equity, food and benefits access, and justice and opportunity by securing the resources needed to strengthen communities across New York City.

About the Role

United Way of New York City (UWNYC) seeks an organized and collaborative fundraising professional to support the organization's foundation and institutional giving strategy. Reporting to the Senior Director, Foundation and Institutional Relations, the Associate, Foundations will help manage a growing portfolio of foundation and corporate partners by supporting prospect research, proposal development, grant reporting, and donor stewardship.


Working closely with colleagues across Resource Development, Finance, and Community Impact, this role plays a vital part in securing institutional funding that advances UWNYC's strategic priorities and community impact.


Key Responsibilities

  • Research and identify foundation and corporate funding opportunities that align with UWNYC's mission and strategic priorities.
  • Maintain and manage a pipeline of prospective funders, tracking outreach, proposal deadlines, reporting requirements, and next steps.
  • Draft, edit, and coordinate grant proposals, concept papers, briefing materials, and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with program and finance teams to gather data and prepare accurate, compelling grant reports.
  • Upload and submit proposals, reports, and required documentation through foundation and corporate grant portals.
  • Prepare background research, meeting materials, presentations, and briefing documents for funder meetings and cultivation opportunities.
  • Support the development of stewardship materials that strengthen relationships with institutional funders.
  • Coordinate donor communications, schedule meetings, and provide administrative support for foundation fundraising activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation within donor databases and CRM systems.
  • Support cross-functional collaboration to ensure timely completion of fundraising deliverables and institutional reporting requirements.


Qualifications

  • Passion for UWNYC's mission and commitment to advancing equity and opportunity for all New Yorkers.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field required.
  • Three to five years of professional experience in nonprofit fundraising, institutional giving, philanthropy, grants management, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, research, and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience preparing grant proposals, reports, or donor communications is highly desirable.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using donor databases and CRM systems, including Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT.
  • Experience with Monday.com or other project management platforms is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment while managing competing priorities.
