Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) is looking for a Communications Director with exceptional strategic, writing, and media management skills. Ideal applicant is detail-oriented, able to coordinate numerous progressive policy issues in a fast-paced media environment, has meaningful personnel management experience and political judgement, has directed robust digital content creation, and is a fast, dynamic, and seasoned writer and editor. The Communications Director will be responsible for overseeing all communications, press, and creative functions in the office, including development of messaging priorities, execution of communications plans, briefing and staffing the Senator, pitching stories, collaborating with policy staff, cultivating positive constituent stories, and editing communications content. They will also help coordinate interviews with national and local reporters, manage relationships with media outlets, and provide on-the-record comment when appropriate. The ideal applicant will have at least 5-8 years of demonstrated experience working in a senior role on a communications team, preferably on Capitol Hill or in a campaign setting.
