Deputy Political Director

This role will be a major contributor to the political strategy of the State Party, engaging with organizing, candidate and county support, training, and regional political work. The person in this role will be responsible for managing the workload of regional political managers, making strategic decisions about and developing political programming, and maintaining relationships with allies, elected officials, candidates, county parties, and supporters.

This role requires an individual who is able to work nimbly, filling in as situations arise. They must be a team player, and able to both support and manage the work of their team, as well as practically implement programs, as needed. The ideal candidate is a good project and people manager who has managed a state legislative or congressional campaign.

Core Responsibilities:

Manage & oversee regional political managers, who are implementing TDP’s programming across the state and the primary point of contact with local county parties and candidates

Identify programming priorities, in consultation with colleagues throughout TDP and stakeholders, and plan execution and timelines.

Strengthen political relationships with allies, candidates, county parties, and supporters.

Develop and contribute to strategies and mechanisms for internal team communication, as well as communication between the political team and the rest of the organization.

Contribute to hiring decisions within the political team.

Work on projects within the different political team departments as needed, to fill holes and to ensure priority area work is completed, even in the face of political emergencies or sudden changes to the timeline/agenda.

Additional duties as assigned by the Political Director.

Required Skills and Experience:

Strong management and interpersonal skills, including at least two years of experience directly managing paid staff

At least two cycles of political work experience, demonstrating an ability to make smart, strategic decisions when faced with difficult political circumstances

Experience developing and scaling communication and internal workflow structures for rapidly growing teams.

Highly organized and committed to detail

Preferred Skills:

Experience in organizing, project/program management, and political circumstances in Texas

Team building and motivating team members

Works well under pressure and juggling multiple projects simultaneously

The ability to be a leader of the team and within the organization

A reliable cell phone

Experience working in the Google Suite

The Deputy Political Director must commit to working at the Texas Democratic Party through the 2022 cycle.

The Deputy Political Director will report directly to the Political Director.

Salary:

$65,000 – $75,000/year + employee health insurance fully covered
