Press/Digital Assistant - Office of U.S. Representative Derek Tran (CA-45)

Location: Washington, D.C.

Salary: $55,000 - $60,000

The Office of Representative Derek Tran (CA-45) is seeking a creative and self-motivated Press/Digital Assistant to join his Washington, D.C. office. The Press/Digital Assistant will play a key role in shaping the Member’s digital media presence and written communications efforts, working closely with the Communications Director to execute a holistic strategy that highlights the Member’s work to serve CA-45. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Conceptualizing and developing social media copy, graphics, and video to ensure consistent distribution of posts across Instagram, X, Facebook, and YouTube
  • Drafting press releases, statements, remarks, media advisories, interview memos, talking points, op-eds, and video scripts
  • Compiling, drafting, designing, and distributing newsletters and email surveys
  • Assisting in the development and execution of paid communications (franking) program
  • Building and maintaining press lists
  • Leading photography and videography at press events
  • Managing and updating the Member’s official website
  • Monitoring social media trends and identifying new media and creator collaboration opportunities
  • Maintaining processes for organizing ongoing projects and digital media/written communications assets 
  • Aiding rapid response efforts 

This position requires a strong background in writing, graphic design, and video editing. Ideal candidates are skilled multi-taskers who take initiative, can work well under tight deadlines, and are equipped to pivot from project to project depending on the Office’s most urgent needs. Applicants should be extremely organized communicators with the ability to clearly and concisely distill Democratic policy positions into communications assets built for a battleground constituency. Occasional evening and weekend work is expected. Hill experience, California ties, and Spanish fluency are a plus but not required.
