Help Build the Fundraising Capacity of a Mission-Driven Nonprofit
About Food For All DC
Food For All DC (FFA) is a grassroots nonprofit with a long history of addressing food insecurity in Washington, DC. We are seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial fundraising professional to help us strengthen our financial foundation and expand our capacity to serve vulnerable residents in our community.
The Opportunity
FFA is looking for a Fractional Director of Development who can combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution. Working closely with organizational leadership, you will assess our current fundraising activities, identify opportunities for growth, and develop and implement a practical plan to diversify and increase revenue.
This role is ideal for an experienced development professional who enjoys building relationships, creating new funding opportunities, and helping a small organization grow. You will have meaningful responsibility for shaping fundraising priorities and the flexibility to focus on the activities most likely to deliver results.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy and Planning
- Assess FFA’s existing fundraising activities, donor relationships, funding sources, communications, and development capacity.
- Develop and implement a practical fundraising plan with clear priorities, achievable goals, and measurable progress.
- Identify opportunities to diversify revenue and strengthen the organization’s long-term financial sustainability.
Donor Development and Relationship Management
- Strengthen relationships with existing individual donors and identify opportunities to increase their engagement and giving.
- Research, identify, and cultivate new individual donors, including prospective major donors where appropriate.
- Develop effective approaches to donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and retention.
Grants and Institutional Partnerships
- Identify and evaluate prospective funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, community partners, and other appropriate sources.
- Support grant prospect research, funding proposals, and relationship development with institutional funders.
Fundraising Communications and Execution
- Work with FFA leadership to communicate the organization’s mission, impact, and funding needs effectively.
- Strengthen fundraising materials using client stories, program outcomes, newsletters, annual reports, and donor communications.
- Translate fundraising priorities into actionable activities and help carry them through to completion.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a resourceful development professional who can work independently, build trust, and turn ideas into practical fundraising results.
Required experience and capabilities
- Demonstrated experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or donor relationship management.
- Experience developing and executing fundraising strategies, preferably for a small or growing nonprofit.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to engage individual donors, institutional funders, and community partners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop compelling fundraising messages.
- A hands-on approach: comfortable moving from strategy and planning to prospect research, outreach, proposals, and follow-through.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating closely with organizational leadership and a small team.
- A genuine commitment to FFA’s mission of addressing food insecurity in Washington, DC.
