Job Description
DESCRIPTION: This position serves as the Director of the Joint Committee on Legislative Research pursuant to §23.080 RSMo and as the Revisor of Statutes tasked with carrying out Article III, §34 of the Missouri Constitution.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director shall assist the Joint Committee on Legislative Research in carrying out the duties assigned to it under Chapter 23 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri. Except as otherwise provided by law, the Director is responsible for all supervisory duties for all staff, including managing work projects, hiring, disciplinary issues, and all other associated personnel functions. The Revisor of Statutes is responsible for maintaining the Revised Statutes of the State of Missouri. During the January-May legislative session, the Revisor assigns section numbers to proposed legislation and reviews bills that cross between the House and the Senate to determine if the language used is different. In cases of direct conflict in which the different versions cannot be reconciled to be “intelligible” (see §3.065), the Revisor issues Affected Statutes notices to bill sponsors, handlers, and drafting staff. The Revisor is responsible for producing the format and content of the entire Revised Statutes of Missouri - Titles, Chapters, Sections, headnotes, footnotes, cross-references, legal history, case citations, tables, appendices, indexes, etc., as part of the revision process. This process includes publication, sale, and distribution of the printed Revised Statutes of Missouri and maintaining the online version of the statutes.
Qualifications: Per §3.070, RSMo: The Revisor of Statutes shall be duly licensed to practice law in this state. Experience with the legislative process is required and experience with revision is preferred. Experience and knowledge managing staff is preferred.
