The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and strategic direction of the Old Island Restoration Foundation (OIRF). This role ensures the effective operation, financial stability, and continued growth of the Foundation and its historic properties, in alignment with the mission and vision set forth by the Board of Directors.The Executive Director serves as the primary spokesperson and representative of OIRF, fostering relationships with donors, partners, and the community to support the Foundation’s mission of preserving, protecting, and promoting the architectural and cultural heritage of Key West.Reports To:The President of the Board of DirectorsKey Responsibilities:Leadership & Administration

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Foundation, ensuring efficiency and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Implement policies, programs, and decisions as directed by the Board of Directors.
  • Manage human resources, including hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, including nonprofit governance standards.
  • Develop and enforce organizational policies and procedures to support operational effectiveness.

Financial Management & Fundraising

  • Oversee all financial operations, including budget development, fiscal planning, and financial reporting.
  • Work closely with the Board Treasurer and bookkeeper to ensure responsible financial stewardship.
  • Manage accounts payable, receivable, payroll, payroll taxes, and state sales tax filings.
  • Lead fundraising initiatives, including grants, sponsorships, donor cultivation, membership growth, and special events.
  • Identify and pursue grant opportunities to support programming and preservation efforts.

Historic Preservation & Property Management

  • Ensure the preservation and maintenance of OIRF’s historic properties, including the Oldest House Museum & Gardens and other assets.
  • Supervise independent contractors and maintenance personnel for repairs and restoration projects.
  • Coordinate with historic preservation experts to uphold the integrity of the properties.

Programs & Events

  • Plan, promote, and execute key annual events, including:
  • House & Garden Tours (December–March)
  • Docent Appreciation & Membership Events
  • Annual Conch Shell Blowing Contest (March)
  • Fantasy Fest Fundraiser & Parade Viewing Party
  • Develop new programs that align with OIRF’s mission and expand community engagement.
  • Evaluate event success and seek opportunities for growth and improvement.

Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Serve as the public face of OIRF, fostering partnerships with local, state, and national organizations.
  • Represent OIRF in media appearances, public events, and community forums.
  • Actively participate in Key West networking organizations, including:
  • Key West Chamber of Commerce • Business Guild • Innkeepers Association • Attractions Association
  • Develop and maintain relationships with historical societies, tourism organizations, and preservation groups.

Board Relations & Governance

  • Serve as the staff liaison to the Board of Directors, attending all Board and committee meetings.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on Foundation operations, financials, and initiatives.
  • Foster a collaborative and productive working relationship between staff and the Board.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Historic Preservation, Museum Studies, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of executive leadership experience in a nonprofit, cultural, or historical organization.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and fundraising expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience in event planning, marketing, and donor relations.
  • Knowledge of historic preservation principles and the ability to oversee restoration projects.
  • Excellent public speaking, communication, and networking abilities.
  • Passion for preserving and promoting Key West’s architectural and cultural heritage.
  • Spanish/French a plus.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
