Field Director – Matt Mahan for Governor
The Matt Mahan for Governor campaign is seeking a seasoned Field Director to design and lead a best-in-class statewide field program in one of the most complex and competitive electorates in the country.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for building and executing a disciplined, metrics-driven voter contact operation that delivers persuasion and turnout at scale. The Field Director will oversee all field strategy, staff, and volunteer infrastructure, with a core focus on the Bay Area and targeted statewide expansion.
Responsibilities
- Architect and execute the campaign’s statewide field strategy, from early persuasion through Election Day turnout
- Build, manage, and scale a high-performing field department, including regional directors, organizers, and volunteer leadership
- Direct all voter contact programs: canvassing, phones/texts, relational organizing, and coalition-based outreach
- Set clear performance benchmarks; use data, modeling, and reporting to continuously optimize tactics
- Integrate field operations with data, political, and communications teams to ensure message and targeting discipline
- Develop and manage field budgets, timelines, and operational plans
- Serve as a senior advisor to campaign leadership on turnout strategy, targeting, and resource allocation
- Manage databases as needed
Qualifications
- Extensive field leadership experience on large-scale or statewide campaigns, including direct staff management
- Demonstrated success running data-driven persuasion and GOTV programs
- Deep knowledge of Bay Area and California electoral dynamics
- Proven ability to build strong teams, enforce accountability, and execute under pressure
- Willingness to commit fully to the demands of a high-intensity statewide race
Compensation: $10,000 – 12,000 monthly
Reporting Location: San Jose
