Job Description
The office of Congresswoman Debbie Dingell seeks a Field Representative/Caseworker for Michigan’s 6th Congressional District. This position will support the Congresswoman in building and maintaining relationships with local elected officials and community members in Ypsilanti and Western Wayne, keeping up to date on local issues and projects, assisting constituents through casework, and frequently staffing the Member while she’s in district. The position will cover: Augusta Township, Belleville, Milan, Pittsfield Township, Sumpter, Superior Township, Van Buren Township, York Township, Ypsilanti City, and Ypsilanti Township.
REPORTS TO: District Director and Director of Casework
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Serves as the Congresswoman’s representative within assigned communities by meeting and communicating regularly with constituents, local officials, community organizations, and stakeholders;
· Builds and maintains relationships with local, state, and federal partners on behalf of the office;
· Manages a constituent casework portfolio by serving as a liaison between constituents and federal agencies and ensuring timely, responsive communication and follow-through;
· Maintains accurate and up-to-date casework records, correspondence, and constituent communications;
· Monitors local issues, developments, and community priorities and regularly briefs the Member and staff;
· Conducts frequent outreach and maintains regular communication with community leaders, businesses, advocacy organizations, and local partners;
· Maintains an up-to-date calendar of community events, meetings, and engagement opportunities within assigned areas;
· Plans and coordinates meetings, events, and district visits for the Member in assigned communities;
· Tracks major projects, developments, and emerging issues within assigned communities and prepares regular written updates and reports;
· Represents and regularly staffs the Member at meetings, community events, and public engagements, both in-person and virtually;
· Prepares weekly reports for the Member on updates within assigned communities;
· Regularly staffs Member at community events, both in-person and virtually;
· Meets attendance requirements as established by the office;
· Maintains strong working relationships with the Member, staff, constituents, and external partners;
· Works effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities and deadlines;
· Maintains a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed; and
· Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Familiarity with and/or existing relationships within the local community preferred;
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with constituents, community leaders, and government officials;
· Access to a personal vehicle and the ability to travel throughout the community for meetings, events, and constituent services;
· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills;
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment;
· Sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion in handling sensitive constituent matters;
· Ability to work collaboratively and maintain productive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and members of the public; and
· Commitment to public service and constituent engagement.
