Job Description

About the AI Dividend

AI is impacting jobs that provide security and mobility for millions of Americans. Yet our ability to respond is at a particularly weak point, hurt by uncertainty about the speed and scale of AI's impact.

Fortunately, we don't need to know the future to start preparing.

The AI Dividend is a pilot program that provides income support and reskilling to workers displaced by AI, generating data needed for an effective response. We are exploring:

  • How to identify AI displacement on an individual level
  • How workers navigate and overcome AI displacement
  • How income support can support the road to re-employment

The AI Dividend is the latest program from the Fund for Guaranteed Income (F4GI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has run more than 20 cash transfer programs nationwide.

The AI Dividend is not a guaranteed income pilot program. We aim to test both cash and alternative forms of support to understand what displaced workers are asking for — and what really helps people overcome AI displacement.

The role

The AI Dividend is seeking a member of the founding team to help build this program from the ground up. As Program Manager, you will work directly with F4GI's Executive Director and our core team to keep the program organized, remove distractions, and solve problems so we can learn as much as possible from each stage of the program and scale.

The AI Dividend is run by a small, core team. Like a startup, every person wears multiple hats and is expected to play a role in different areas of the project.

Location. The team meets in person in New York City once a week, so preference will be given to candidates located in the NYC area. We will also consider strong remote candidates anywhere in the United States; remote hires would join the team in person for occasional gatherings, roughly quarterly.

Your work will be concentrated in:

  • Program Operations: Making sure the program is running smoothly, finding and proposing solutions to pain points.
  • Program Design: Connecting with directly impacted workers, workforce development providers, and AI researchers to ensure their input and expertise are built into the DNA of this program.
  • Program Strategy: Helping us stay connected to what is most important and triage between competing priorities.

Your work will also touch on:

  • Fundraising: Supporting our team in finding partners interested in supporting our growth.
  • Research: Coordinating research activities (interviews, surveys) and keeping outputs organized.
  • External Communications: Contributing to our work sharing the impact and stories from this program more broadly.

How do I know if I'm a good fit?

The AI Dividend is being built in real time — the work involves a lot of unknowns and experimentation. We are looking for someone with:

  • experience in a small startup or similar fast-paced environment who is comfortable working with uncertainty and ambiguity
  • a demonstrated track record of making good decisions, quickly, with limited information — and pivoting when things don't work out
  • a bias for action and a love of feedback — you understand the concept of "best right now"
  • a strong personal organization system — you ask questions and gather context intuitively so you always know what is most important

Onboarding will be limited. You will be expected to figure out systems and ask questions so you can hit the ground running.

You are expected to use AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT daily. Ideal applicants are highly proficient with these tools — you have developed your own workflows and can help the team level up. Comfort with tools like Cursor is a bonus.

You are actively engaged with AI as a topic — reading, thinking, discussing, following the field. AI policy or research is a strong plus, but you don't need to have formal research or policy experience as long as you bring useful and interesting perspectives to the team. You are an excellent candidate if you can help us connect to the right partners throughout the AI space.

How to apply

Email careers@f4gi.org with the subject line "Program Manager — [Your Name]" and include:

  1. Your resume and LinkedIn profile.
  2. Three professional references — we will not contact them without speaking with you first.
  3. Short answers to the following:
  • What experience do you believe prepares you well to work on this team?
  • What are a few examples of how you've used AI in the last week?
  • Which writers or thinkers about AI would you recommend to our team, and why?
  • What is one AI development from the last six months that changed how you think about work?
  • What tools or techniques do you use to stay organized?

Bullets and short answers are fine and encouraged. We care more about the clarity and strength of your answer than how polished it is. Using AI to draft your answers is fine, but please be aware that many people do this and the results all tend to look similar.

About F4GI

The Fund for Guaranteed Income (F4GI) directs power and resources into the hands of the people — so everyone can determine the course of their lives.

We partner with community organizations and governments to run pilot programs that reimagine systems, including the social safety net and the criminal legal system, and advocate for more efficient, dignified, and inclusive forms of support.

To date, most of our work involves direct cash transfers. We built the Compton Pledge — the largest city-based guaranteed income program in US history — and have supported more than 20 pilot programs nationwide. We design and implement pilot programs, build technology, and conduct research to make the case for policies that meaningfully expand support.

Beyond cash, we build tools that address the broader needs of the communities we serve. Over the past five years, our positive-impact technology projects have assisted some of the hardest-to-reach community members.

F4GI is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, age, national origin, disability status, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other protected characteristic. We encourage applications from people with lived experience of job displacement or career transition.
