Summary
This position is located in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for for Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Duties
The General Deputy Assistant Secretary (GDAS) for Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations reports to the Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations. The incumbent serves as principal assistant to the Assistant Secretary in overseeing and coordinating special projects for the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists the Assistant Secretary in relation to all matters connected with coordination and development of the legislative program of the Department and provides advice relating to proposed legislative initiatives.
Meets frequently with major organizational unit heads and assures the full consideration of significant
questions and problems. Makes decisions on policies and problems, calling to the Assistant Secretary's
attention significant matters, and presents unresolved problems or conflicting interests to the Assistant
Secretary for final determination.
Establishes, maintains, and has direct contact with congressional committees which deal with HUD
legislation and have oversight responsibility relating to HUD.
In accordance with instructions from the Assistant Secretary, work with Members of appropriate
Congressional Committees in support of Administration positions on legislation.
As directed, the incumbent accompanies key officials of the Department, in appearances before
Congressional Committees, and provides information and advice prior to and during the course of such
appearances. Arranges for attendance of other HUD officials at Congressional hearings as required.
In dealing with Congressional representatives, and in briefing HUD officials prior to meetings, travel,
speeches, etc., incumbent must be aware of and sensitive to political ramifications, pending program
or policy changes, and pending or new legislation affecting HUD programs.
