Job Description
The National Wilderness Coalition seeks a contract-based Coalition Coordinator to help develop
and carry out the Coalition’s vision of reinvigorating the wilderness movement by building a
more diverse, inclusive, and powerful base of support and, in doing so, prioritize wilderness
conservation as a critical tool for addressing the ongoing degradation of wildlands, climate
change, biodiversity loss, and the lack of access to nature. This is an 18-month remote,
independent contractor position, with the opportunity to extend into a long-term role based on
performance and fundraising. The Coalition Coordinator will be funded through multiple
Coalition member organizations, but will report directly to the executive committee.

Responsibilities
● Oversee and manage the Coalition, including developing strategic approaches to
advance Coalition goals and priorities.
● Coordinate monthly Coalition meetings.
● Work with the executive committee to develop and implement fundraising strategies to
support Coalition efforts.
● Work with Coalition committees to develop campaign plans to advance goals, utilizing
the Coalition’s organizing, communications and policy expertise.
● Manage the Coalition’s public-facing communications tools, including web and social
media sites.
● Work with the communications committee to ensure that the Coalition develops
necessary messaging, branding, media and communications support. Develop fact
sheets, videos, and other story-telling pieces as needed.
● Maintain regular communication with the executive committee and Coalition members on
specific action items and progress on Coalition goals.
● Work with the D.C. committee to execute congressional strategies, which may include
developing lobbying materials, lobbying trainings, brown-bag luncheons, and a national
wilderness fly-in/lobbying week.
● Contribute energetically and thoughtfully to the Coalition in a collaborative, inclusive,
professional, inspired, empathetic, hardworking and fun manner.
Deliverables
● Work with D.C. committee and event planner to execute a successful D.C. fly-in and
Wilderness Act 60
th anniversary celebration in September 2024.
● Work with the organizing committee to develop and implement a plan to grow the
Coalition, with a specific focus on education, outreach and diversity.
● Build and manage the Coalition website and social media presence (in coordination with
the communications committee).
● Develop outreach materials regarding wilderness preservation, with a specific focus on
addressing common critiques of designated wilderness (in coordination with the
communications and D.C. committees).
● Develop and begin implementing a lobbying strategy focused on building congressional
wilderness champions (in coordination with the D.C. committee).
● Develop and execute one brown-bag educational luncheon for congressional staffers (in
coordination with the D.C. committee).
Preferred Experience
● Experience with public lands law or policy, with a focus on wilderness-related issues
preferred.
● Experience with planning and executing legislative, policy, or media campaigns.
● Experience with fundraising.
● Proven leadership abilities and experience working with diverse coalitions.
Compensation, Location and Start Date
● $75/hour; 10-15 hours per week average. Flexible work hours.
● Nationwide- this is a remote work position
● Flexible start date; ideally August 1, 2024 or earlier.
