Mission

Twin Cities Maker is a non-profit, volunteer-driven community of makers. We provide access to tools and equipment, education, and other resources to help people of all skill levels innovate, create, and learn.

Vision

Our vision is to be a leading creative hub for individuals and the greater community in the Twin Cities, a place where people from all backgrounds and interests can come together to realize their creative and technical potential. We strive to make the Twin Cities a better place by empowering individuals to build, learn, and share their talents and passions.

Our Workshop

We operate a 13,000 square foot shared community workshop, located in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis. We’re always expanding our capabilities, but here are some highlights:

A machine shop for producing high-precision mechanical parts out of steel, aluminum, or brass.
A large metalworking shop, for cutting, bending, forging, and welding
A woodworking shop with almost any kind of power tool you could ever need.
A high-end laser cutter, capable of cutting and engraving a wide range of materials.
A sewing studio outfitted with with hobbyist and industrial sewing machines and sergers
An area for screenprinting, fine arts, and stained glass
And we’re in the process of adding a lapidary studio, ceramics shop, and wool area!

Our Community Members

Our shop is run almost entirely by volunteers and is available to members all day and all night, every day of the year.More than just providing access to tools and electricity, our workshop is a meeting place, where our nearly 500 members can collaborate on projects, share and learn new skills, and enjoy shared interests together.

Position Overview

The role of the Program Coordinator is to assist the Program and Operations Director (POD) and President with developing and implementing programs and the overall day-to-day operations of the organization. Primary responsibilities will include grant-writing and fundraising, marketing, communications, and program implementation. This position is currently temporary for 6 months, with the possibility of permanent hire dependent on revenue availability.

As of June 2025, Twin Cities Maker has a building at 3400 Cheatham Avenue under contract for purchase. This position will assist the President and Advancement Volunteers with building a funding package to complete this purchase by the end of the calendar year through grants, fundraising, and marketing. In addition to this, we are in the process of launching a lapidary shop, ceramics shop, and wool processing area. The Program Coordinator will work closely with the POD and shop managers to implement shop processes in these new areas. This position is considered temporary in its current form, as the core focus will be on these projects, but may have the opportunity to extend its term depending on revenue.

Job Title: Program Coordinator

Pay: $25/hr

Hours: 20 hrs/wk (may fluctuate depending on events and needs)

Term: 6 months, with the possibility of extension dependent on revenue

Benefits: Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)

Time Off: Unlimited PTO as approved

Location: Hybrid

Reporting Structure: Directly reports to POD, some duties report to President

Responsibilities:

50% — Advancement
- Research grant prospects and identify potential funding sources
- Assist the Advancement Volunteer Team with grant applications
- Create promotional materials (graphics, newsletters, social media posts) to encourage community participation
- Handle logistical details for fundraising events, including vendor partnerships, permits, contracts, invoicing, and expense management.
- Support management of sponsorship relationships
30% — Program Implementation
- Coordinate classes and other programs based on funding and community interest with an emphasis on increasing membership revenue.
- Assist newly established shop managers develop programs to support their shop with an emphasis on increasing membership revenue.
- Measure the performance of programs and make adjustments to optimize results and engagement with an emphasis on revenue generation.
- Assist the POD in coordinating volunteer recruitment and tasks
- Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including community members, school personnel, volunteers, partners, etc.
- Coordinate Twin Cities Maker Fest and other community events
20% — Other duties as assigned
