Job Description
The City College of New York is seeking an experienced, sophisticated digital communications freelancer to join the social media team within the college-wide Office of Institutional Advancement, Communications and External Relations.
About the position
This freelance, hourly position is about 20 hours per week during the 2023-2024 academic year (late August – early June), with possibility for summer extension and re-engagement. The Social Media Consultant will create content (text, graphics, images, video) and monitor and manage interactions on the college's official social media profiles. In addition, the Consultant will write occasional content for email newsletters and for the CCNY website. Work may be a mixture of on-campus and remote.
Responsibilities
- Developing and drafting social media content for approval
- Attending campus events and interviewing, photographing, and videotaping students and others
- Photography and video: Shooting, basic editing, and posting to multiple platforms
- Verifying information with campus colleagues
- Monitoring, evaluating, and responding to incoming messaging, in collaboration with supervisor
- Brainstorming and innovating on social media
- Developing and drafting occasional newsletter content for approval
- Developing and drafting occasional website content for approval
- Related duties as needed
Requirements
The ideal candidate will be a strong, strategic writer with several years' previous social media experience representing a brand or institution.
- Must be proficient and keep up to date with Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
- Basic video editing, photo editing, and graphics skills
- Research skills, integrity, accuracy, and editorial judgment
- Comfortable with a quick pace
- Background in journalism or PR is useful
- Education: College degree
