SHRM’s paid internship program enables students to participate in valuable real-world work experience through a variety of tailored assignments within their areas of interest and fields of study. Students will also be given an opportunity to partner with other interns to explore a case study that is drawn from our culture at SHRM. Teams will present their findings to their hiring manager and the Executive Team at the end of the summer.
Position Description
- Carry out division-specific tasks/activities (as listed below) and other duties as mutually agree upon by the student and supervisor during the interview process
- Manage deliverables and provide regular updates.
- Public Policy and Government Affairs
- The External Affairs intern will work closely with members of the External Affairs team on multiple projects including, but not limited to working with the government affairs team on meeting preparation and outreach, working on A-Team priorities, tracking legislative, regulatory and policy developments on issues within SHRM’s policy pillars, assisting with implementation of SHRM’s Global Outreach Initiatives and the implementation of the External Affairs department’s overall strategy.
- Global Development
- The Education Programs intern will assist in developing and delivering ongoing learning experiences through conference events, instructor-led programs, and an eLearning library.
- The Sales Enablement intern will support sales team and will learn about sales process, logistics, forms. The intern could also conduct research and analyze data to gain knowledge of global market segments.
- The eCommerce Optimization intern is responsible for supporting the optimization of SHRMStore functionality and performance by which SHRM sells its products and programs. The position will collaborate cross-functionally with Technology, Accounting, Customer Experience, Marketing, and Business Intelligence teams to continuously improve the customer experience, product visibility, and revenue.
- Human Resources
- The HR intern will provide support in and be exposed to a variety of HR disciplines including, but not limited to talent acquisition, talent management, employee relations and engagement, inclusion, job evaluation, compensation management, benefits administration, investigations, workplace policy development, organizational learning, and talent development.
- Knowledge
- T he Research intern is responsible for providing research support to SHRM research teams in the areas of survey research, data analysis, research communication, and data visualization. The intern will provide support to ongoing research projects. Specific responsibilities may include survey design, survey programming, data analysis, and literature review.
- The Workplace Innovation Lab intern will work collaboratively with all team members, actively participate in discussions, decisions, and all project activities. Assist with the event logistics of SHRM Labs' BWCC and its accelerator program. Review/vet startup applications for BWCC and the accelerator programs. Upload resources to the Workplace Tech Community site.
- Marketing/Communications
- The Marketing Analytics intern will assist in analyzing large data sets from multiple sources to identify trends, root causes, and business improvement opportunities, and visualize those findings using digital analytics tools.
- The Art Design intern will w ork within existing brand guidelines and designs to version out print collateral, image-based emails, and digital assets for website and social media channels.
- The Audience Segment Marketing intern will assist with acquisition, retention, engagement, and product marketing tactics in support of audience marketing plans.
- The Social Media intern will assist in the day-to-day tasks related to social media including community monitoring, content creation, creative design, and metrics reporting.
- Position Qualifications
- 0-3 years of relevant work experience
- Government Affairs-u ndergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in human resources, economics, government/political science, or related field.
- Global Development - undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a major in business administration, marketing, digital communications/media, data science, or related field.
- Human Resources - undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a major in human resources, business administration, or related field.
- Knowledge - graduate, or doctoral student pursuing a degree in industrial/organizational psychology, business administration, digital communications/media, data science, or related field.
- Marketing/ Communications - undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in marketing, business administration, digital communications, art design, social media or related field
- Strong communication and analytical skills

- Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.
- Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

- Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.
