Your New Role – Tribal Affairs Director!
The Tribal Affairs Director serves as the principal advisor to the Governor on Tribal Affairs and advises the Governor on tribal gaming matters pursuant to the federal Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, assuring good faith bargaining with the federally recognized sovereign tribal nations of Oregon. This position also leads the Governor’s tribal negotiation team including the Department of Justice and Oregon State Police; consults and coordinates with the Governor’s General Counsel on tribal gaming matters.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
-
Seven years of executive-level policy development or foundational experience directly related to the position being recruited
OR

Equivalent education and experience
Requested Attributes:
-
Advanced education or extensive work experience on tribal matters, policies, and government-to-government relations.

Thorough understanding of the structure and procedures of Oregon state government to include budget, legislative, rulemaking, and agency administrative processes.

Ability to manage conflict, lead dispute resolution and foster collaboration among diverse groups and individuals over tribal government-to-government relations and Indian gaming policy issues.

Ability to articulate the Governor’s tribal affairs policy positions in a manner that promotes understanding and support for the Governor’s priorities.
