Position Overview

The Digital Impact Alliance (DIAL) works to advance a more equitable world by putting the rights and aspirations of people at the center of digital transformation. To that end, we connect people with evidence to design digital systems and tools that work for society through research, demonstrations, and policy advocacy. We collaborate with others to promote digital systems and governance approaches that maximize participation, agency, choice and trust, with a particular focus on effective data exchange systems and strong data governance.

Hosted by the United Nations Foundation, DIAL is a partnership among the world’s leading digital development champions, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the United Kingdom’s Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, and the German Development Cooperation Agency (GIZ), among others.

DIAL is seeking an Associate, Program Operations to support our program teams in our learning, sharing and enabling operating model through program coordination and activity implementation. The Associate, Programs plays an important role in providing entry level support with project administration and complete professional and administrative tasks related to DIALs global program implementation. The position will report to the Senior Director, Finance & Programs Operations, DIAL, and the position is based in Washington, DC (hybrid schedule).


The ideal candidate is an individual who is starting their career in the digital development field or program management and is excited to be fully immersed in a program and within an organization that is in “startup mode”. This candidate is a self-starter with strong communication, interpersonal, attention to detail and who works well on teams. This candidate is also thinking of ways to improve processes or activities and enjoys working with teams to think through pragmatic solutions.


Essential Functions


Program Management

  • Support the Senior Director in the communication, management, and oversight of program status and updates.
  • Provide backstop/surge support to Program Managers on their programs.
  • Assist Program Managers with preparing Letters of Invitation for invited guests to DIAL/DIAL-sponsored events and meetings.
  • Provide day-to-day support to DIAL’s Program Operations team and others as needed.
  • Assist with the organization and administration of DIAL’s internal SharePoint database for knowledge management.
  • Attend external meetings and conferences on behalf of DIAL on topics related to our programmatic focus.
  • Support CEO with program fundraising and business development efforts as needed.

Event and Office Support

  • Support the planning and implementation of organization-wide meetings, trainings, retreats, and morale-building activities - such as the weekly staff meeting and learning sessions. Work across the organization to build agendas by priority.
  • Physically greet and escort guests of DIAL for arranged meetings, conferences, and events held at the Washington, D.C. office.
  • Provide light tech support for DIAL’s arranged meetings, conferences, and events held at the Washington, D.C. office, including but not limited to setting up teleconference software, microphones, recording devices, and presentations.
  • Arrange catering for DIAL’s meetings, conferences, and events.
  • Order and track office and meeting supplies for DIAL use.
  • Physically greet and escort new DIAL employees based in Washington, D.C. on their first day, ensuring access to the building, familiarity with the office and office amenities, and connecting them with IT for equipment pickup.

Travel Support

  • Develop relationships with travel vendors and assist DIAL staff with booking travel and meeting/event logistics, ensuring proper adherence to DIAL’s Travel Policy, Procurement Policy, and funder requirements.
  • Assist Program Managers with maintaining the DIAL Travel Tracker and collecting receipts from Program Team members for expense reporting.
  • Prepare the Senior Director, Finance & Program Operations’ monthly corporate card expense reports, ensuring filing deadlines are met, expenses are coded correctly, and all receipts and documentation are uploaded in Concur.

General Administrative Support

  • Support hiring coordination and processes, such as scheduling phone screenings and virtual or in-person interviews.
  • Assist the Director of Program Operations with onboarding and offboarding of employees, to include arranging for new equipment or equipment returns, managing access to DIAL’s online systems and tools, and facilitating the new staff person’s introduction at the DIAL Team Meeting
  • Support the Program Operations team with billing and subscriptions for DIAL-wide software and tools.
  • Support special projects such as audits or the annual work planning and budgeting process as needed.

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study required.
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Interest, knowledge, or work experience in the digital development sector. 
  • Ability to organize and execute complex tasks in a goal-oriented manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when needed.
  • Ability to collect and synthesize information to produce programmatic reports for donors.
  • Ability to manage own time and schedule with initiative and effectiveness, negotiating and prioritizing demands across multiple projects and teams. 
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision. 
  • Interest in developing expertise around contracts, grant management, and project management skills. 
  • Knowledge of and experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), program management tools, Smartsheet, and Salesforce.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English required. 
  • Experience in proposal writing preferred. 
  • Ability to learn and grow in this role as this position serves in a broad capacity.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress. 
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
