Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Leader, Global Executive Communication & Public Affairs. This position is located in New Brunswick, NJ.

Reporting to the Vice President, Global Pharmaceuticals Communication & Public Affairs, the Leader, Global Executive Communication & Public Affairs, is responsible for creating and supporting organizational communication and external thought leadership platforms and opportunities for Worldwide Chairman Joaquin Duato as well as integrating external positioning strategies for other Pharm leaders as needed. Responsibilities also include protecting / enhancing the Janssen brand by identifying, preparing for and providing counsel on / managing global reputational issues / public affairs issues and media relations strategies. The role includes proactively shaping the external environment by actively leveraging the collective value of senior executive participation in external management boards and collaborating with Government Affairs & Policy (GA&P) colleagues to support our Worldwide Chairman in his role as PhRMA Board member. Additionally, the leader will have responsibility for the global public affairs strategy for Janssen.

The Leader, Global Executive Communication & Public Affairs will develop and execute overarching organizational communication strategy that supports key WWC leadership platforms and inspires /engages a high-performing global organization to achieve business goals. Will identify / create external opportunities for Worldwide Chairman Joaquin Duato to play a visible leadership role in positioning Janssen / Johnson & Johnson as an industry leader on themes and topics of importance to the company; prepare for and manage associated media interviews / coverage, stakeholder dialogue, etc. This individual will powerfully connect with key audiences by illustrating key messages of innovation, collaboration, access, patient focus and growth with a compelling narrative, poignant patient and employee stories and personal leader anecdotes. Continuously assess technology platforms to enhance reach and engagement of internal audiences and key external stakeholders. Model and inspire integration of knowledge from deep internal and external networks; multi-stakeholder insights; and broad understanding of business, competitive and industry priorities and efficient implementation of strategic communication plans that drive key business outcomes and shape the environment for the company’s medicines and solutions. Maintain deep understanding of current issues in the environment affecting the J&J enterprise, business sectors and brands. Strengthen the Janssen identity by collaborating with Communication colleagues supporting select Pharm leaders to ensure an integrated approach; ensure message consistency on key themes.

The Leader, Global Executive Communication & Public Affairs will protect the Janssen brand by identifying, preparing for, counseling on / managing global reputational issues and media relations strategies. Continuously assess Janssen’s position in the global marketplace, identify potential areas of reputational vulnerability and coordinate activities focused on mitigating risk. Partnering internally and externally, ensure preparedness on global issues of importance to Janssen from a business, scientific, investor relation, and / or public affairs / policy perspective. Collaborate as necessary to ensure clear, consistent messaging; identify and media train appropriate internal experts on topics of importance to Janssen. Work with business leadership, Janssen media relations staff and J&J media relations team to develop strategic media relations stratetgies and ensure their successful execution; this work to include proactively crafting story angless and targeted media outreach. As necessary, act as primary spokesperson on high risk issues or topics that span the global Pharmaceuticals organization; examples of issues include but are not limited to biosimilars, pricing, access, counterfeit product, etc.

The Leader, Global Executive Communication & Public Affairs will shape the external environment through leadership of the Janssen public affairs strategy, active trade association representation and executive support. Evaluate and leverage the collective value of senior executive participation on trade association, advocacy organization and / or NGO boards and committees to position Janssen / J&J as thought leaders among these influential audiences. Shape external environment in support of innovation and access. Monitor global trends and policy landscape; articulate implications to our industry, business, etc. Continue to represent the interests of Janssen / Johnson & Johnson from a Communication & Public Affairs perspective at PhRMA and BIO. Identify and manage issues relating to global, cross-sector Public Affairs and /or Policy and as necessary, educate colleagues internally regarding potential business implications. Collaborate with GA&P colleagues to fully support Joaquin Duato in his role as Johnson & Johnson’s Board representative at PhRMA. Lead the Janssen Public Affairs Council to strengthen the capabilities of our global team in shaping the external environment.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in liberal arts, business, political science, communications or journalism is required; MBA preferred

A minimum of 15 years experience in strategic communication relating to corporate brand enhancement and protection, issues mitigation and management, media relations, direct interaction with – and counsel to – business leaders and proven experience in developing integrated organizational communication strategies is required.

Demonstrated ability to build deep, authentic relationships and exhibit strong influence with senior internal and external stakeholders is required.

Experience in writing compelling narratives for global, analyst, business audiences is required.

Outstanding strategic thinking and analytical abilities are required.

Experience with financial figures, share, competitor comparison data, etc. is required.

This individual must be a quick study, with the ability to participate in high level confidential discussion and handle related materials appropriately.

Experience in successfully interacting with colleagues at all levels at the regional, global and corporate levels is required.

Experience in all aspects of managing complex, high profile issues is required.

Success in directing and managing consultants is required.

A successful track record of building understanding about the pharmaceutical industry is required.

Deep understanding of digital and social platforms is required.

This position is based in New Brunswick, NJ and requires 40% travel (domestic and international).
