About the Role: Bob Casey for Senate is seeking an individual to join the Communications team as a Deputy Communications Director. The Deputy Communications Director will play a major role in managing a talented team, working with a large state press corps, and coordinating rapid response on a critical Senate race in a battleground state.

The deputy communications director will work with the communications director to implement communications strategy, including overseeing day-to-day operations and state press corps interactions, building events, and ensuring quarterly communications goals are met. The deputy CD will build and maintain relationships with the national press.

The deputy communications director will play a large role in handling high-level incoming press inquiries and in key rapid response moments and will also be a key campaign contact for external partners and our coordinated campaign.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the communications director to oversee the execution of day-to-day communications strategy including press events;
  • Respond quickly and accurately to high-level incoming press inquiries;
  • Help lead execution of rapid response activities and internal war rooms;
  • Supervise the work of a talented communications staff;
  • Manage the drafting and approval processes of comms materials including press releases, op-eds, and memos;
  • Act as primary contact for a large swath of national press, including coordinating national reporter travel for campaign events.

Qualifications:

  • 3 cycles of political communications experience or the equivalent (nontraditional but applicable experience welcome);
  • Commitment to organization, effective project management, and superior attention to detail;
  • Experience brainstorming and executing rapid response tactics and proven results shaping media narratives;
  • Extensive experience talking to state and national press on background; on the record experience a plus;
  • Outstanding ability to write and edit;
  • At least one cycle of experience managing junior staff;
  • A record of successfully planning, executing, and staffing a variety of press events;
  • Ability to multitask and work in fast-paced environment;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Attention to detail and enthusiasm for data-driven processes;
  • Dedication to being a team player and trying new things;
  • Access to cell phone, laptop, a valid driver's license, and reliable transportation.

Logistics:

Level: Deputy

  • Salary Level: $6000+ per month, commensurate with experience
  • Location: Philadelphia
  • Benefits: Medical, dental vision plan at no premium upon meeting plan eligibility requirements
  • Leave: Paid time off will be available per Campaign policy.
  • Hours: Full time position. This position's schedule will vary based on the needs of the campaign and point in the cycle, and is likely to require evening and weekend work over the course of the election cycle.
