The News and Multimedia Division within the NASA Office of Communications in Washington, DC, is seeking a skilled individual to join our News and Media Engagement team to focus on communicating with nontraditional and underserved audiences while elevating the agency's unique contributors and programs via integrated narratives and storytelling.

Responsibilities

Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.

Develops and maintains brand and message consistency across platforms.

Directs/supports media/strategic communications campaigns, identifying opportunities, tracking, analyzing, evaluating performance, and recommending updates or revisions based on analytics.

Measure the effectiveness of these engagement efforts with approved metrics and shall provide as-needed reports and briefings on those metrics.

Publicizes activities and opportunities, assuring that targeted audiences are reached, with a focus on underserved and underrepresented populations.

Writes and edits stories and social media posts, creating graphics, videos, and photos; determines digital platforms best suited for content; and posts content to websites; creates and curates sharable content.

Designs, plans, and directs or advises on the public affairs programs and/or organizations within NASA.

Plans, initiates, and implements comprehensive public affairs campaigns to enhance the understanding of the agency's programs among the general public and specialized groups and organizations.

Serves as primary contact for NASA outreach to specialty media audiences and public engagement programs involving multiple organizations across centers; as well as external partners and entities.

Develops and broadcasts a wide range of information and data concerning the nature and objectives of NASA programs and missions, employing all types of media, with a particular focus on nontraditional media outreach.

Qualifications

You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level preparing communication products intended for the news media, social media and the web, with an emphasis on specialty and nontraditional media outreach; creating and editing posts and media content for platforms meeting journalistic standards and ensuring technical accuracy; serving as the primary interface for outreach with news conferences, media days, social media events, and activities; participating in the planning of agency and/or corporate wide activities for news events, public engagement activities, and special events.

To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level leading or managing the communication products intended for the news media, social media and the web, with an emphasis on specialty and nontraditional media outreach; reviewing and approving posts/media content for platforms meeting journalistic standards and ensuring technical accuracy; developing and broadcasting information for media and strategic communications campaigns; serving as the primary interface for outreach with news conferences, media days, social media events, and activities; overseeing in the planning of agency and/or corporate wide activities for news events, public engagement activities, and special events.
