The City and County of Denver’s Office of Climate Action, Sustainability, and Resiliency (CASR) works to enable a sustainable, resilient, climate-safe future for all of Denver in collaboration with fellow departments, other units of government, and community partners. We lead the development of innovative programs, policy, and community-based services. CASR ensures that our goals are aligned with current climate science, promotes the role that climate action and sustainability play in strengthening Denver's economic vitality and a prosperous future for all, and embraces equity as a value and practice in all its work. CASR is responsible for managing the Climate Protection Fund (CPF), which will disburse $35M annually for climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience initiatives. Learn more at www.denvergov.org/sustainability.

Inclusive community engagement is critical to the work of CASR. We firmly believe every voice matters and communities should have the opportunity to shape the future of their city. To ensure this, we are seeking a Community Partnerships Administrator to drive this work. This is a new position within the Communications and Engagement Division for a highly motivated and innovative individual with expertise working with community-based organizations, small business partners and a wide range of stakeholders, with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. This position will listen and respond to members of the public, actively engaging groups that may be unlikely to participate in traditional outreach efforts, and help update CASR’s outreach tools and strategies, including best practices for community meetings, public events, surveys and soliciting feedback. This role is a key member of the CASR team, reporting to the Communications and Engagement Manager.

The role will primarily focus on garnering support for and participation in the Climate Protection Fund (CPF), encouraging groups to apply for CPF project funding through an RFP process and drafting RFPs that directly influence CASR’s ability to better engage the community.  Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Design and implement an equitable outreach program to generate ideas for and promote funding opportunities through the Climate Protection Fund with a strong focus on high-impact, community-based projects.
  • Work with other teams within CASR to implement equitable and inclusive outreach strategies, help facilitate community engagement efforts, solicit feedback for projects or initiatives and coordinate public events.
  • Nurture existing community partnerships and build new relationships to amplify the work of CASR, find areas of cross-collaboration and encourage ambassadorship of CASR programs.
  • Work with the Sustainable Neighborhoods and Certifiably Green Denver program administrators to leverage these relationships in support of other community engagement efforts in CASR when appropriate.
  • Serve as the staff liaison for the Community Adaptation, Resiliency, and Environmental Justice Committee (CARE-J) of the Sustainability Advisory Council, updating the CASR team with input and feedback from committee members.
  • Coordinate translation and interpretation services for community meetings, public events and written materials.
  • Assist with social media, email and website messaging geared toward encouraging engagement, participation and feedback from various audiences.
  • Other duties that may arise.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Bilingual fluency, preferably Spanish
  • Strong project management experience with ability to push through barriers to deliver exceptional results on time
  • A mission-driven mindset and the desire to tackle climate action in Denver
  • A strong emphasis on equity and inclusion, with either professional or lived experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, including communities of color and under-resourced communities
  • An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on climate action and community engagement
  • An ability to work with representatives from a variety of City agencies and external organizations in a collaborative manner
  • A willingness to grow, innovate, analyze, and improve processes or procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to present to diverse audiences
