Position Description: The National Coalition for the Homeless seeks a self-motivated, outgoing Civil Rights Policy Analyst. This individual will work closely with the Executive Director and Senior Policy Analyst in moving the organization’s policy agenda around civil rights and racial equity forward to advance the legislative, public policy goals and objectives of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and monitor local, state, and federal policies regarding civil rights and racial justice in housing.
  • Meet with legislators, legislative staff and other government representatives to assist with education and legislation development.
  • Draft updates, newsletters, policy statements, factsheets, and reports for staff, board, website, and members.
  • Support the Executive Director with national-level activities related to civil rights and anti-racists policy, including issue research, meeting coordination, and legislative advocacy.
  • Assist in the development of organizing strategies aimed at policy change and increased resources for housing and civil rights protections.
  • Act as principal NCH researcher in the design and drafting of civil rights issue reports.
  • Assist with engaging and managing interns.
  • Represent NCH in coalition work with local and national partner organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Strong research and data analysis background.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with a team.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with people from different backgrounds.
  • Be knowledgeable in federal, state and local policy; strategizing policy.
  • Lobbying experience preferred.
  • Personal experience of homelessness strongly preferred.

Compensation: This position pays $53,000 per year and is a full time position with a robust benefit package that includes 2+ weeks a year of vacation and holidays, sick leave, 403b retirement plan, an employee assistance plan, and Health, Vision, Dental, Life and Disability Insurance.
