Foreign Affairs Officer

Summary

This Foreign Affairs Officer position is located in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL), and serves as a Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of DRL. DRL is responsible for designing and implementing foreign affairs programs that promote and support democracy, human rights, religious freedom, and workers’ rights in those areas of the world where these fundamental values are beginning to take root and flourish.


Duties

Serves as staff coordinator and synchronizer for DRL activities involving policy, programmatic, and administrative operational issues.

Analyzes a variety of cross-cutting DRL issues that are critical to the development of policy and the operational support of foreign policy initiatives and objectives.

Establishes and maintains working relationships with other DoS bureaus and federal agencies for purposes of resolving conflicts and assuring optimum coordination of programs and operations of high priority or special emphasis.

Develops background information, tactics, and approaches for presenting policy positions both in-house and in the interagency, Congressional, and non-governmental arena.

Continuously reviews policies, assesses political viability of options and alternatives, and develops innovative approaches to the promotion and support of democracy, human rights, and labor.
