Senior Manager, Starbucks Brand Reputation (Crisis) Communications

As a senior manager on our Global Communications team, you lead and support in the implementation and measurement of high-impact, integrated communications plans across various disciplines within corporate communications , with a focus on crisis communications/brand reputation and the goal of protecting and elevating the Starbucks business and brand with all stakeholders.

The ideal candidate has a passion for crisis communications with a drive to support and protect the brand. At heart, you are a media hound and a storyteller, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that will require collaboration across multiple business groups to develop communication strategies that drive engagement and builds audience. As a key leadership function within the organization, you will also be expected to provide timely strategic communications counsel to all levels, including senior or regional leaders.

Passion about media relations is a must, as this role is critical to serving as an advocate and defender of the company’s reputation, with critical issues and crisis communications responsibilities. This person will need to be experienced and enjoys engaging with reporters, editors, partners (employees) and key stakeholders.

As senior manager, Starbucks Global Corporate Communications, you will:

  • Set strategic and operational communications campaigns and plans for the team, manage program execution, and measure results across earned media, owned channels, external event engagements and partner sentiment.
  • Serve as the day-to-day lead for issues and crisis communication for the company, developing key messages and engaging with reporters as needed.
  • Develop communications campaign materials, including key messages, executive bios, press releases, Q&As, fact sheets, timelines and presentations to further elevate the corporate reputation of Starbucks.
  • Respond to a diverse range of global communications responsibilities in a timely and comprehensive manner and implement proactive and reactive plans to contribute to the successful positioning of brand and business in a fast-moving environment.
  • Oversee day-to-day media relations, develop communications materials, manage media interviews and contribute to global media lists in support of increasing Starbucks profile and visibility around the world.
  • Create and manage internal practices to enhance the global coordination and alignment of communications activities and continuously seek opportunities to evolve the function to anticipate the changing business landscape.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • 10+ years or more communications experience (with 5+ years in corporate communications) in retail, Food & Beverage, agency, and/or corporate management environment
  • Experience managing multiple complex projects and programs and influencing others within organizations of scale
  • Process-oriented: Someone who is excited to take on often ambiguous projects and insert process in order to establish clear roles and responsibilities
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, including an aptitude in assessing and prioritizing incoming assignments, managing competing deadlines, and a willingness to work non-traditional hours
  • Extensive experience and excitement to work with news media, notably business and financial media
  • Familiarity and experience with non-traditional communications channels and platforms and how they behave.
  • Ability to work as a self-starter, requiring limited supervision, while balancing collaboration with others
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, can-do attitude and ability to connect people and ideas across the organization
  • Ability to drive and partner with both small and large virtual teams
  • Written, verbal, and visual communications effectiveness
