National Communications Strategist

The Leadership Conference Education Fund and The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights seek a National Communications Strategist for their Voting Rights Program – supporting coordinated efforts to ensure all voices are heard in our democracy.

The ability to participate in civic life — to have a voice in choosing the elected officials whose decisions impact our lives, families, and communities — is at the core of what it means to be an American. At The Leadership Conference, we work to modernize elections and build a 21st century democracy — a democracy where all of our voices are heard. With our coalition partners, we inform the public, decision-makers, and the media about barriers to voting and advocate for policies that expand the right to vote, especially in communities of color.

The National Communications Strategist will lead communications strategy development and implementation in support of our Voting Rights efforts; provide strategic direction for the program; and, assist program leadership in developing goals for, and support efforts to advance, the program’s objectives. The Strategist will work in partnership with the communications director for All Voting is Local, a Leadership Conference Education Fund campaign that fights voter suppression at the state and local level. In addition, the incumbent will work in coordination with the Voting Rights Program Director and report to the Managing Director of Communications.

Ideal candidates for this position will hold a Bachelor’s degree with 5 to 7 years’ experience in media relations, communications, or related areas, as it relates to public affairs. They will have experience with producing crisp communications products, including press releases, social media content, messaging guidance, and pitch memos. The most competitive candidates will have a demonstrated record of navigating fast-paced environments while building effective, innovative communications strategies that change narratives, move issues, and improve lives.

This communications professional can craft strategic and forward leaning communications plans that draw upon the resources, expertise, and interests of key stakeholders and partners. The incumbent must also have experience working with diverse audiences, including elected officials, community leaders, coalition partners, and the public.

This is a full-time, temporary, exempt position ending on December 31, 2020. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Strategist will work at The Leadership Conference headquarters in Washington, D.C.
