PRESS SECRETARY/DIGITAL DIRECTOR

OFFICE of CONGRESSWOMAN STEPHANIE MURPHY

SUMMARY:

Rep. Stephanie Murphy of Florida seeks an experienced Press Secretary/Digital Director to join her communications team as part of a demanding, fast-paced office. The Press Secretary/Digital Director will manage social, email, web, and creative strategy, and assist the Communications Director in developing and implementing a media, communications, and public relations plan. This is not an entry-level position. Applicants should be organized and creative, have at least one year or one campaign cycle of digital experience, possess strong writing abilities, and exhibit a record of working across multiple digital platforms. Ideal candidates will have experience shooting and producing professional-quality photo and video, as well as proficiency with Premiere, Lightroom, Photoshop, or other Adobe suite programs. An understanding of HTML and CSS, and experience using a Fireside or another constituent management system is preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Manages social media platforms and develops a creative digital strategy;

Helps implement media, communications, and public relations strategies;

Designs graphics for social media and helps create and publish content, including videos;

Provides information on and generates ideas for press, mass mailings, and newsletters;

Compiles media reports in the district and the nation for their impact on the Congresswoman;

Maintains a good working relationship with the Congresswoman, staff and constituents;

Has the ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others;

Works well under pressure and handles stress;

Works a flexible schedule including long hours, nights, and weekends as needed according to the Congressional schedule; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

This is not an entry-level position.

Completion of a four-year college education is preferred for this position. Ideal candidates will have at least one year or one campaign cycle of digital experience.

Experience producing professional-quality photos, videos, and graphics is required.

Proficiency with Premiere, Lightroom, Photoshop, or other Adobe suite programs is preferred.

An understanding of HTML and CSS, and experience using a Fireside or another constituent management system is preferred.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills;

Strong communication skills;

A strong understanding of print, broadcast, and online media;

Strong digital design skills and understanding of social media;

Extensive video editing experience and production skills;

Knowledge of current issues;

Ability to perform essential job functions above; and

Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Due to COVID-19 work is mainly from home until the pandemic subsides.

When work conditions return to normal, the work is mainly performed in an office environment. Noise levels are usually moderate. You will be expected to work in a small work station without an expectation of privacy.
