Senator-elect Andy Kim seeks a State Director to lead his New Jersey team, oversee operations and advance strategic priorities. This is not an entry-level position and previous management experience, as well as experience in government, advocacy, community organizing, external relations, and/or political campaigns is required.

The ideal applicant will be a leader with a demonstrated ability to manage a large team and build a strong workplace culture. Successful applicants will think strategically, have solid professional relationships across New Jersey, excellent organization and communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to public service. This senior staff position reports to the Chief of Staff and the Senator-elect.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervisory: Leads and manages a team of up to 20 employees; carries out responsibilities in accordance with office policy and all applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and managing the performance of all state staff;
  • Represents the Senator in all areas of the state, including meeting and maintaining professional relationships with federal, state, and local elected officials and agencies; staff from congressional delegation offices; stakeholder organizations; community and business leaders; and constituents;
  • Works with the Senator and senior staff to identify strategic priorities, build and execute plans for achieving key objectives;
  • Accompanies the Senator on visits throughout the state; 
  • Acts as a public and private surrogate or representative on behalf of the Senator in-state when he cannot be present;
  • Maintains close communication with the Washington, D.C. office; and
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned by the Senator.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 8-12 years of relevant work experience 
  • 5+ years management experience
