Summary


The Manager of Policy Communications at the U.S. Travel Association, holds a pivotal role in crafting and refining a diverse array of materials, focused primarily on policy related support including but not limited to newsletters, communications to Capitol Hill, policy white papers, press release support and among other communications. Integral to the functioning of the Public Affairs team, this person will provide essential support by meticulously proofreading and editing documents. Moreover, they assume a coordination and leadership role in the creation of materials for the Government Relations department, spearheading initiatives to ensure alignment with the Association’s strategic priorities. Their collaborative efforts extend to the generation of compelling content for digital platforms, underscoring their commitment to advancing the Association's communication strategy. The position demands not only exemplary written communication skills but also a profound capacity to thrive within a dynamic team-oriented environment.


Responsibilities


  • Compose and revise a diverse range of documents, including white papers, fact sheets, industry letters in support of policy and communications geared towards Capitol Hill and the Administration.
  • Assist in preparing materials for important events and speeches, contributing to the organization’s professional image and messaging.
  • . Provide comprehensive proofreading and editing to the Public Affair team, maintaining the highest standards of quality in all communications.
  • Take ownership of developing specific written materials within the Government Relations department, demonstrating expertise and attention to detail.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to generate impactful policy related content for the organization’s website and online platforms, aligning messaging with strategic priorities.
  • Utilize Dreamweaver to code emails and manage the approval and distribution process through MagnetMail, optimizing email marketing effectiveness for U.S. Travel.

Qualifications


  • Undergraduate communications-related degree required with 3-5 years of experience in an advocacy first association, political campaign, Capitol Hill, or think tank.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly distill complex policy and travel industry issues into succinct, persuasive copy across an array of formats
  • Flawless proofreading skills and a superior command of AP style.
  • Proficient in HTML (experience with Dreamweaver a plus); Mastery of Microsoft Office products, especially Word and PowerPoint.
  • Robust comprehension of the intricacies of the American political landscape

Other


  • Position based in Washington, DC. U.S. Travel staff work in the office Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
