Job Description
The American Society on Aging (ASA) leads the largest and most diverse community of professionals in aging in America. As a result, ASA has become the go-to source to cultivate leadership, advance knowledge, and strengthen the skills of those who work with older adults.
ASA is currently seeking a flexible, detail-oriented, and collaborative freelance Copy Editor/Proofreader for ASA’s renowned Generations Journal.
Generations Journal is the quarterly journal of the American Society on Aging, available to all of ASA’s members and to others via Ingenta. Each issue is devoted to bringing together the most useful and current knowledge about a specific topic in the field of aging, with emphasis on practice, research and policy. Issue topics are selected by an editorial advisory board. It is not a peer-reviewed academic journal but has an academic tone and more pragmatic content. Click here to view recent issues.
The freelance editor should expect to work approximately 30–35 hours every one or two months on upcoming Generations Journal issues. Your work/tasks would involve copyediting and proofreading pieces that run between 1,500 and 5,000 words. These pieces would already have been developmentally edited and made to adhere to ASA style (APA Style with a few quirks). Work would be assigned by the Editorial Director. The workflow of this position may result in copyediting several articles per week or none for weeks at a time. Flexibility is key.
Knowledge of APA Style is critical, and knowledge about issues involving aging is a major plus. Multiple topic areas within aging are covered, from economics and medicine/health to psychology and social work/labor issues and many other facets of aging.
Candidates can work remotely in any U.S. time zone, but the Editorial Director is working from Pacific Time. Work can begin immediately upon hire. Please note this is NOT a writer or author position.
