Legal Fellowship for 2026

The Copyright Alliance is seeking to hire a legal fellow who have a strong interest in copyright law and policy for a fellowship. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.

The Copyright Alliance is a DC-based non-profit, non-partisan public interest and educational organization representing the interests of thousands of creators and innovators across the spectrum of copyright disciplines, including of authors, photographers, performers, artists, software developers, musicians, journalists, directors, songwriters, game designers and many other independent creators. The Copyright Alliance also represents the interests of book publishers, motion picture studios, software companies, music publishers, sound recording companies, sports leagues, broadcasters, guilds, and newspaper and magazine publishers and many more organizations. We also work closely with a Legal Advisory Board of major law firms who advise clients in the copyright community, an Academic Advisory Board of notable law professors and legal scholars, and a Creators Advisory Board of creators who are active on copyright policy issues.

The Copyright Alliance is dedicated to advocating policies that promote and preserve the value of copyright and to protecting the rights of creators and innovators. We are committed to promoting the cultural and economic benefits of copyright and providing information and resources on the value of copyright to the fiscal health of the nation and for the good of creators, owners, and consumers around the world.

Fellows will work in a collegial, team atmosphere and get experience working on interesting and complex legal copyright issues with various creator communities, including the visual arts, film, literary arts, new technologies, and music.

Responsibilities:

The Fellow will primarily assist with on-going projects within the legal policy department, including monitoring, researching and writing about various copyright policy issues. Specific duties include:

  • Assisting with general legal policy affairs of the organization;
  • Assisting the Senior Vice President and the Vice President of Legal Policy with drafting and/or editing policy documents and briefs the Copyright Alliance submits to Congress, the Copyright Office and federal agencies and courts;
  • Monitoring and reporting on legislative, regulatory, and industry events and developments;
  • Contributing to the Copyright Alliance blog and newsletter;
  • Providing individual creators with copyright educational information.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Completed law school or in last semester of law school, including at least one copyright law course completed
  • Relevant work or internship experience
  • Strong research and writing skills – including both legal writing and the ability to write on complex legal topics for a general audience
  • Applicants must be able to commute to the Copyright Alliance D.C. office & local events during fellowship hours
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. The Copyright Alliance is unable to sponsor work visas or other similar arrangements at this time.
  • Secured partial or full external funding for the duration of the fellowship is a plus but not required.
