OVERVIEW
Majority Democrats is building a new media ecosystem to win the next era of politics and our voice has to cut through every day. We are hiring a Writer for social media and longform content to help us shape how we show up across platforms: from daily tweets and rapid-response posts to YouTube scripts and Substack essays.
We are building a distinct, human voice: personable, a little irreverent, culturally aware, occasionally funny, and always clear about what we believe. The right person understands how to write like a smart, real person on the internet, not a press release.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Write Daily Social Content
- Draft daily tweets and threads tied to news of the day
- Write in a way that feels like a real person reacting to the world (not an institution)
- Translate complex political developments into clear, punchy, human language
- Write rapid-response posts in real time as moments unfold
- Find moments for humor, irreverence, and cultural fluency without losing the substance
- Shape Voice Across Platforms
- Help define and maintain a distinct, human editorial voice for Majority Democrats
- Ensure consistency across Twitter, Instagram captions, YouTube scripts, and Substack
- Strike the balance between authority + clarity + personality
- Know when to be serious, when to be funny, and when to just say the obvious thing plainly
- Identify opportunities for voice-driven posts that build a recognizable tone
- Support YouTube + Video Content
- Provide script drafts, outlines, or rewrites for YouTube videos (explainers, interviews, field pieces with our contract writers, researchers, social media team and Executive Producer
- Punch up hooks, cold opens, and narrative framing
- Help translate policy and politics into watchable, story-driven scripts
- Contribute to Substack + Longform Writing
- Draft or edit Substack posts, essays, and newsletters
- Help shape angles, framing, and narrative structure
- Ensure longform writing is clear, persuasive, and readable, not jargon-filled
- Rapid Response + Message Development
- Work closely with digital + comms teams to turn news moments into content
- Draft talking points, lines, and message frames that can be used across platforms
- Help identify what we should be saying, not just how to say it
WHO YOU ARE
You’re a fast, culturally fluent political writer who understands that:
- A tweet needs to land in 2 seconds
- A script needs a clear hook and payoff
- A Substack needs a strong point of view and structure
- Political writing has to be human, not robotic
We’re open to this role being part-time or full-time. You might have years of experience — or you might be a college student who’s just really good. If you’ve got voice, instincts, and irreverence, we want to see it.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Within the first 3–6 months, you will have:
- Helped establish a clear, recognizable voice for Majority Democrats online
- Consistently produced high-performing tweets and social posts
- Improved the quality and clarity of YouTube scripts
- Contributed to compelling Substack content people actually read and share
- Helped the organization respond to the news cycle quickly, sharply, and effectively
WHAT WE OFFER
