The Team You’ll Work With
The Mayor’s Office of Communications leads the effort to inform, update, and engage New Yorkers
about Mayor Eric Adams commitments to getting stuff done for all New Yorkers.

The Problems You’ll Solve
The First Deputy Communications Director is a key member of the larger Mayor’s Office of
Communications, responsible for communicating the Administration’s vision, mission, and policies to
New Yorkers and a broader online audience. S/he crafts and executes strategic communications plans
and is responsible for advising senior administration officials on a wide range of issues. The First
Deputy Communications Director reports to the Director of Communications.

Primary responsibilities include:

Responsibilities:
• Manage strategic communications for the Deputy Mayor’s portfolio of agencies and issue areas

and serve as the event lead for Mayoral announcements.
  • Serve as an advisor to the Director of Communications and other senior administration officials.
  • Prepare agencies for hearings and ensure that key issues include the perspective of City Hall
  • Craft long-term plans on Mayoral issue areas.
  • Provide message guidance to Mayor’s Press Office and agencies.



About You

  • 10+ years related experience in public relations, journalism or communication.
  • Advanced writing skills, interpersonal skills, media knowledge, required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, required.
  • Proficiency with electronic communications media, as well as with such social media networks
as Facebook and Twitter, required.
  • Ability and experience to balance multiple demands and deadlines.

Salary
The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive
salary, equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation range for this role
is $150,000 to $180,000.

factors.
