East Los Angeles Staff Assistant/Caseworker

Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis’ office is offering a notable career opportunity for an energetic, self-motivated individual for the position of Staff Assistant/Caseworker in the East Los Angeles District Office.

The First District is home to two million residents, in diverse communities from unincorporated East Los Angeles to East Hollywood, MacArthur Park to Eagle Rock, and Monterey Park to Pomona. The candidate must be community-oriented and have a strong interest in improving the quality of life for residents of Los Angeles County.

The Staff Assistant/Caseworker will work closely with residents and community stakeholders as well as municipal, state, federal and Los Angeles County government departments and agencies to address issues affecting the First District. The Staff Assistant/Caseworker will also support the District Engagement team to provide the administrative and logistical support needed to implement Supervisor Solis’ district priorities and projects.

Duties and responsibilities, limited but not to:

·        Act as liaison with community, government departments, and agencies within Los Angeles County for the First District.

·        Responds to constituent requests for general information and other non-legislative inquires.

·        Answers and screens telephone calls and emails for the First District field office.

·        Organize and support community meetings and events, from planning and securing a venue to logistical and field support.

·        Submit and draft language for certificate requests.

·        Reserve and prepare meeting spaces for office appointments and meetings.

·        Assist with office operations as assigned.

·        Assist in the management of the district calendar.

·        Maintains literature regarding the Los Angeles County and First District for distribution to visitors, during meetings, and events.

·        Maintain clear and consistent communication with the District Engagement Team and Legislative Deputies, to ensure that information is expeditiously and effectively communicated and followed through

  • Work closely, take direction and report to the East Los Angeles Deputy District Director and District Director.

·        Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or 3 years’ experience in public service.

·        A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

·        Basic understanding of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Teams are required.

·        Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively interact with colleagues, elected officials, union/labor/corporate/business representatives, community stakeholders, and constituents.

·        Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with sound decision-making and willingness to take direction.

·        Ability to prioritize tasks.

·        Familiarity with communities throughout the First District, ability to work respectfully with people from all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

·        Ability to multitask and adapt to a fast-paced schedule.

·        Work a flexible schedule including after hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed according to the First District schedule.

·        Knowledge of a second language spoken in the district is preferred. Spanish preferred.

·        Experience in civic engagement, and/or advocacy is desired.

·        Must be highly self-motivated and committed to the needs of the First District.

Please note that this position will require work hours beyond the normal workday and will include weekend and holiday work. The position is full-time, exempt, and unclassified.
