About Whistleblower Aid: 


Whistleblower Aid provides pro bono legal, advocacy, and communications support to government and private sector whistleblowers acting in the public interest. The organization’s lawyers have represented some of the most consequential national security and Big Tech whistleblowers in history, including the Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen, the anonymous intelligence community whistleblower whose disclosures led to the first impeachment of President Trump, and others.


About Position:


Whistleblower Aid is seeking a motivated summer intern to provide support across its operations and casework. The intern will support a small team with core activities including communications, advocacy, campaigns, external relations, fundraising, speaking engagements and depending on qualifications - legal assistance. The intern will join the team in real-time communications and advocacy efforts, as well as supporting ongoing whistleblower cases. Whistleblower Aid’s work is highly sensitive and this position requires absolute discretion and professionalism. 


Some examples of tasks will include developing the team’s longer term resources like databases including donor prospects, partner prospects and other stakeholder engagement opportunities.


The internship runs from June 4th to August 15th, pays $25/hour, and is part-time, with work days being Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The position is fully on-site at a downtown Washington, D.C. office. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis with a planned hiring decision in early May. 


Qualifications:


  • College student, with a preference for rising seniors or soon-to-be graduates
  • Pursuing degree in politics, communications or similar, with pre-law concentration a bonus
  • An interest in justice, resilient democracy and corporate accountability a must     
  • Past internship experience working in a political setting, Capitol Hill, communications agency, law firm, public policy firm or a think tank a plus
  • Excellent research skills, proficiency with building and maintaining contact, media, donor, partner and influencer lists
  • Experience with social media strategy and content. 
  • Experience and proficiency with administrative tasks, ideally in a non-profit setting
  • Ability to multitask, take initiative, work independently and meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced small team environment
  • Utmost discretion in handling confidential information
