The Office of Senator Stanley Chang is hiring a full-time Office Manager. Stanley Chang is an innovative member of the Hawaiʻi State Senate, representing District 9. His goal as a legislator is simple: he wants to solve Hawaiʻi's housing shortage. Senator Chang is the Chair of the Senate Committee on Housing. Beyond housing, Senator Chang seeks to find innovative solutions to Hawaiʻi's most pressing issues. Examples include his work to establish free community college, to decriminalize marijuana, and to improve police-community relations.

Position Overview: The Office Manager oversees administrative functions, supports constituent concerns and inquiries, and assists the Housing committee clerk as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Office Management: Maintain office equipment, supplies, and filing systems (during the legislative session).
  • Coordination: Manage the Senator’s calendar and supervise session staff and interns.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to legislative policies and ethics guidelines. Communicate with the Chief Clerk, State Ethics Commission, and Campaign Spending Commission as necessary.
  • Communication: Engage with stakeholders, constituents, other legislative offices, and government agencies.
  • Event Planning: Organize and coordinate meetings, conferences, and travel arrangements for the Senator.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of office and housing delegation financial accounts.
  • Social Media: Assist in producing and posting content to Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).
  • Constituent Support: Address state-level inquiries or concerns from constituents, connect them with appropriate departments for city-level issues, draft monthly newsletters, and update the Senator’s website.
  • Committee Clerk Support: Review bill drafts and committee reports, file documents with the Senate Clerks, summarize testimony, prepare for committee hearings, and ensure quorum (as needed). Attend monthly Hawaii Public Housing Authority Board meetings and other relevant meetings of Senator's interest. Write articles for Senator's weekly housing newsletter as needed.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, or a related field.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a legislative or government office preferred.

Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as legislative deadlines may demand. Medical, dental, and vision benefits are available. The Hawai‘i State Senate is an equal-opportunity employer.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
